Evacuation drills help schools in Myanmar be ready for natural hazards

The most tsunami-prone areas in Myanmar, Labutta and Ngaputaw townships, are preparing their schools for natural disasters. More than 170 students learnt about tsunami warning signs, mapped hazard zones and safe areas around their schools, got practical first-aid skills and practiced safe evacuation.

UNDP Trains Teachers to Lead Emergency Evacuations During Natural Disasters in Cambodia

With the support of the Japan Government, UNDP Cambodia trained 25 school teachers from five schools in Steng Hav and Prey Nop Districts of Sihanouk Ville Province to conduct emergency evacuations in schools. These activities are parts of the regional program on "Partnerships for Strengthening School Preparedness for Tsunamis in the Asia Pacific region".

UNDP Concludes Tsunami Evacuation Drills in Schools in Timor-Leste

Over 750 students in Timor-Leste received training on tsunami evacuation and first aid in efforts to strengthen the preparedness of schools for natural disasters. UNDP tsunami drills were held in five primary schools situated at less than 500m above sea level across Timor-Leste.

A series of tsunami drills was kicked off today in Galle, Sri Lanka to raise awareness about the tsunami risks and importance of schools’ tsunami preparedness. The first tsunami drill mobilized 2,500 students of Vidyaloka Madya Maha Vidyalaya school .
