  • Funding Opportunity for Community Environmental Protection Projects - Call for Concept Papers Oct 12, 2016

    If your organization is eligible to apply for funding for Community Environmental Projects. Please also note that the Senqu/Orange River Basin is the Priority Landscape for SGP intervention for this operational phase. Is your organization a legally registered (in Lesotho) a) National or local non-governmental organization (NGO), b) Community-based organization (CBO), c) Recognized grassroots organization or d) A Research and scientific institution? Does the proposed intervention address a threat(s) to the focal areas of GEF SGP? Is the project site located within the Senqu/Orange River Basin? For this call, the focus is on the Khubelu and Upper Senqu watersheds (See guidelines).

  • UNDP launches storytelling contest to amplify climate coverage on the run up to Paris summit Aug 27, 2015

    UNDP Geneva launched a story telling contest to raise public awareness on negative impacts of climate change. This competition which is targeting 35 years old or below journalist closes on 11 October, 2015. Winners will be invited to the COP 21 UN Climate Summit in Paris in December.

  • UNDP Supports Initiative to Strengthen Resilience of Climate-Vulnerable Communities Jun 22, 2015

    UNDP in collaboration with the Government of Lesotho launched a project on Reducing Vulnerability from Climate Change in the Foothills, Lowlands and the Lower Senqu River Basin. This project is expected to respond to climate change shocks like frequent droughts, unpredictable and heavy rainfall etc.

  • A Womens Place May 29, 2015

    As part of the Women in Resistance Month, UNDP together with Hillside Digital screened “A Woman’s Place” film on the 22nd May 2015. A Woman’s Place profiles three women - a judge in rural South Africa, a prosecutor in small town America and a lawyer in India - who try to change century old custom in their respective countries by employing innovative legal strategies.

  • Unleashing Women’s Potential through Economic Empowerment May 26, 2015

    UNDP, in partnership with the American Embassy and Hillside Digital, hosted a panel of discussion focussing on unleashing women potential through economic empowerment. This one day event gave women individually platform to share their experiences and discuss problems encountered on their way up.

  • Policy Dialogue - Harnessing Innovations for Employment Creation May 21, 2015

    The Public-Private Policy Dialogue was organized with the objective of facilitating effective private sector engagement and capacity building that would foster greater collaboration and alliances with government and other stakeholders. It was attended by the UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative, Minister of Trade and Industry and leaders in government, private sector, development partners and the UN agencies.

  • UNDP supports women empowerment initiatives at Qacha’sNek and Berea May 18, 2015

    UNDP supported the Ministry of Gender, Youth, Sport and Recreation's interventions for economic and social development for communities in the districts of Qacha's Nek and Berea. These two weeks' trainings were on making the Mokorotlo hats, paper-beading jewellery, orchard erection and management and fruit drying and beekeeping.

  • Parliamentary Elections in Lesotho Feb 27, 2015

    The United Nations Lesotho role in providing pre-electoral support to the IEC consist of technical assistance in areas of logistics, training, voter education and public outreach. UN reaffirms its continued support to efforts in Lesotho to consolidate democracy and promote development.

  • UN Electoral Assistance in Lesotho Feb 17, 2015

    The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) invited the United Nations Electoral Assessment Mission to undertake a needs assessment mission in Lesotho from 8 - 17 October, 2014. This mission established the needs of the IEC for the February 2015 National Elections. The United Nations is committed to supporting a process that leads to credible and accepted results.

  • National Youth Council member represented the Basotho Youth at ECOSOC in New York Feb 10, 2015

    The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) organised a meeting in New York from 2nd to 3rd February, 2015 for youth across the country. The theme was #Post2015: Youth Leading Forward. UNDP sponsored two Lesotho youth and members of the Lesotho Youth Council, namely Mr. Palo Mohlotsane and Ms. 'Matau Kola. In their report they recommended that all stakeholders, including youth, should work hand in hand in the transition of MDGs to SDGs.
